hello!
My name is Susan Evenson, and I am a freelance artist, designer and illustrator. I have been an art kid from the beginning, and attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago to pursue my BFA in painting and drawing. I work in ink, collage, watercolor, gouache and pencils of all kinds. I love playing with the most vast and mysterious universal questions, while looking at the plainest and simplest facts, with honesty, humor and heaps of curiosity. Editorial illustration, surface pattern design, illustration for home decor items and book illustration are some of my very favorite things. I am currently living and working from my studio in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.

There is a tiny house that functions as my (tiny) studio, where I happily create. A pair of mourning doves on the roof provide a lovely soundtrack.
I was a shy, smiley kid who loved to get her hands dirty and make stuff. And now, less shy, a little more smiley and definitely bringing "getting my hands dirty" to new levels.

I absolutely believe in magic.
I am an avid dreamer, and use dreams to draw from in my art making. I have Epic Movie kinds of dreams, Answers to Questions dreams, and many dreams with a cast of characters who sit at a big conference table (or dinner table) to discuss all of the things. Because of this (and for so many other reasons,) I truly appreciate sleep.
